OpenOffice 2.4.0 appears to have been released! Its not live yet on OpenOffice.org but FileHippo has it (without an RC tag) available for download.

“OpenOffice.org is an open-source, multiplatform and multilingual office suite comparable with MS Office.

It is compatible with all other major office suites and is free to download, use, and distribute. It was previously known as StarOffice before it became an open-source project. OpenOffice comes with OpenWriter - a word processor, OpenCalc - a spreadsheet and OpenImpress - a presentational package.”

A user on the forums (located here) had this to say — “Currently 2.4.0 is set for Thursday, but it may be delayed. This morning, I saw another showstoppers nominated. “

Can anyone confirm this/give any updates?

Direct Download: OpenOffice 2.4.0

UPDATE:  See the comments for more; its actually a mislabelled RC6!

UPDATE2:  Again, the comments have more information but RC6 is the Final release version! You can again get it at FileHippo

Please suspend and remove any announcements and links about OpenOffice.org 2.4 final being released per explanation here: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/PolicyMirrorLinking

I installed OOo 2.4 from FileHippo. It is the en-US version 115MB. When I open and close a spreadsheet, it wants to save changes - but there are none (unless maybe I was using an en-GB or other which could _possibly_ explain that.)

OK, that FileHippo version is RC6, not the final. I confirmed this by checking the MD5SUM.

Since then I have read on http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/ReleaseStatus_Minutes#OOo_2.4_status that RC6 is being released as FINAL (file dates and hopefully internal version numbers will be updated). And the download *is* now available if you know where to look. :)

Great thanks for all the research Ross :) ; I was hoping I hadn’t inadvertently sent people downloading 100’s of megs of beta :)
