As some of you may know I am a die hard Top Gear fan and have been to MPH 3 years in a row now. The first year (2007) was epic. I had never seen something so awesome in my life. 2008 was still epic, but the show had a lot of the same stuff in it from the year before.

For 2009 I was expecting a mad show. It’s the first time they had branded it with Top Gear so I was thinking they’d blow the roof this year. I was wrong :/ The exhibition was dissapointing with big manufacturers (BMW, Mercedes) not making it to the event. At the same time, there were exhibits that didn’t even belong there, such as the rugs and carpets stand.

The show was dissapointing and I feel as if they stole 10minutes of my time with the interactive driving piece. Basically, they gave you a double sided piece of paper that was red on one side and green on the other. You then had to scream to make the car on the big screens drive and show the different colours to make it turn. Now I’m sure most people loved this but let’s look at the demographics of car shows. Most of the people I would think that come to such a show are men who are interested in cars and want to see the latest and greatest the car world has to offer, not the kind of crowd that would sit shouting like a bunch of woo girls to make a crappy CGI car drive :/

They brought the cool wall over which was also a bit dissapointing. You again used your colour coded paper to vote for cars and how you think they should be placed on the cool wall. The concept was great, but the cars they brought were not. Ok, not really the cars but the number of cars, I think 5 or 6 rolled out.

The last 2 shows just had more to offer the car enthusiast if you ask me, even Lolly Jackson’s collection failed to make it this year.

As I’ve said, I’ve been 3 years in a row now and this is the first time I felt a bit ripped off by it.

If anyone else went, and feels differently please let me know because everyone I’ve spoken to so far agrees with what I’ve said in one way or another.
