The Apple iPhone and iPod Touch are virtually identical, except you don’t get the option of selling your soul to make phone calls with the Touch. Well now you can - make phone calls, selling your soul is coming soon.
LifeHacker, the source of all tips, has an article on setting your jailbroken iPod touch (or iPhone) up to be able to make VOIP calls using freeware applications –
“For the privilege of making phone calls with your iPhone, you have to pay $100 more upfront to Apple for the device itself, plus a minimum of $60/month to AT&T for the next two years. Let’s say you didn’t need that kind of firepower from your iPod touch, but that you would like to use it make a phone call every now and then. You can, and today I’m going to show you how to make VoIP phone calls from your iPod touch or iPhone using a freeware application called SIP-VoIP.” Continue reading..

3G iPhone rumored, when’s it coming here?
Written by docmoo on April 10, 2008 – 10:53 pmApple have their next event where we can expect to hear about more glorious gadgets coming from their labs in about 2 months time. One of the gadgets we may hear about is the 3G iPhone, this would be the 2nd incarnation of the phone. The question I have - why hasn’t the 1st generation one gone main stream in South Africa?
The phone was originally launched in June of 2007 which is nearly a year ago. I understand that we are generally a bit behind with the introduction of new gadgets, but we have been pretty good lately with world wide release dates, only falling 2-3 months behind with most things.
Core Group are the primary distributor of Apple products in South Africa and have been criticized in the past regarding their pricing of the iPod. I would think that a product such as the iPhone would be high on the agenda of products to bring in to the country with a market that would more than likely bite at the idea of owning an “iPhone” - I would.
So now we are getting closer and closer to the 2nd generation of the iPhone. Most people agree that certain features being included in the new version should have always been in from the start, but the lack of features common to most other mobile phones has not stopped the iPhone from being a run away success in the rest of the world.
You can read more about the 3G iPhone over at engadget.

This release is aimed to fix the PSOD that some iPhone users experienced and a 501 error that developers were getting annoyed with.
The third beta version of the iPhone SDK includes Interface Builder, Xcode IDE, Instruments, iPhone simulator, frameworks and samples, compilers, and Shark analysis tool.
There are 3 different types of SDK packages as such, the Standard ($99), Enterprise ($299) and Free. Depending on what you plan on doing with the software you create will determine which package you will need. You can download the free version or register over at the Apple iPhone Dev site.

iPhone Pwnage Tool - Jailbreak Win
Written by fx on April 8, 2008 – 8:43 amThe iPhone Dev Teams new Pwnage tool has been released and is available at www.iphone-dev.org. Better still, Engadget has a review on it, and a video on how to use it!
“Pwnage lets you load in any firmware you want, including patched firmwares not signed by Apple — which could lead to everything from custom software distributions to totally new OSs ported over (like, say, Android or Linux). We did what most people are probably going to do, however: we took a brand new 8GB iPhone, unlocked it, and upgraded to the 2.0 firmware, while keeping it active on T-Mobile. It’s not exactly a one-click process, but it’s not all that hard either — although we kind of cheated and had Dev Team members talking us through it. Peep the vid after the break, and check the read links in few hours to get your hands on Windows and Mac versions of the tool.”
See the Video at Engadget, or Get the Tool.
